Fees for NHS patients
Orthodontic treatment provided within the National Health Service is free at the point of delivery for children under the age of 18 years providing they qualify once the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) has been applied. This assessment is normally made at the first Consultation and the parents are informed accordingly. Click here for more information on IOTN. Where the treatment required is for essentially aesthetic reasons it would be necessary to arrange for its provision under a private contract.
Children undergoing treatment within the NHS must also understand that if their brace is lost or broken beyond repair then a charge is made by the NHS for its replacement ( currently between £60-00 and £130-00 ) and that this fee must be paid before the new appliance is provided. There are no exceptions to this, however, a receipt is issued and under certain circumstances a refund can be claimed through the NHS.
